May 5, 2016 Wisconsin Women in Government 29th Annual Scholarship and Recognition Gala
MADISON – Wisconsin Women in Government (WWIG), a statewide, bipartisan, non-profit organization of professional women in government service, will host our 29th Annual Scholarship and Recognition Gala on April 14th, 2016 with Donna Shalala as the keynote speaker. Donna E. Shalala is the president of the Clinton Foundation. Previously, she served as president of the University of Miami and Professor of Political Science. Donna received her B.A. in history from Western College for Women and her Ph.D. from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University. She served as President of Hunter College of CUNY, and as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1987-1993. In 1993, President Clinton nominated her as Secretary for Health and Human Services (HHS) where she served for eight years. In 2008, President Bush presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation’s highest civilian award. In 2010, she received the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights. Tickets may be purchased in advanced for $40 for students or young professionals, $65 for government employees, and $75 for private sector employees. For $175, a “Friend of WWIG” ticket provides admission to the VIP reception, reserved seat at a table, and discounts to upcoming 2016 WWIG events. WWIG is committed to empowering and advancing more women in government service through scholarship and professional development programs, including the WWIG Leadership Seminar conducted in collaboration with the LaFollette School of Public Affairs at UW-Madison. Since 1987, WWIG has raised more than $1 million to support these programs that have benefitted more than 460 women at all levels of government service. Programs and events such as the annual spring gala are organized by an all-volunteer, bipartisan board of directors.
