MADISON – Wisconsin Women in Government (WWIG), a statewide, bipartisan, non-profit organization of professional women in government service, will host our 29th Annual Scholarship and Recognition Gala on April 14th, 2016 with Donna Shalala as the keynote speaker. Donna E. Shalala is the president of the Clinton Foundation. Previously, she served as president of the University of Miami and Professor of Political Science. Donna received her B.A. in history from Western College for Women and her Ph.D. from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University. She served as President of Hunter College of CUNY, and as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1987-1993. In 1993, President Clinton nominated her as Secretary for Health and Human Services (HHS) where she served for eight years. In 2008, President Bush presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation’s highest civilian award. In 2010, she received the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights. Tickets may be purchased in advanced for $40 for students or young professionals, $65 for government employees, and $75 for private sector employees. For $175, a “Friend of WWIG” ticket provides admission to the VIP reception, reserved seat at a table, and discounts to upcoming 2016 WWIG events. Since 1987, WWIG has raised more than $1 million to support these programs that have benefitted more than 460 women at all levels of government service. WWIG Friends of WWIG, have you joined? A networking and fundraising program to continue and grow our annual scholarship funds. Wisconsin Women in Government was founded in 1987 to celebrate and support the talented women who choose a career in government service. Each year, WWIG awards scholarships to women pursuing undergraduate and post-graduate study at any Wisconsin institution of higher education. Scholarships are also provided for the young woman elected Governor of Badger Girls State. WWIG also supports the WWIG Leadership Seminar for professional women looking to advance their management skills. WWIG is committed to raising money for scholarships and programming supporting women at all stages of their careers.

MADISON – Wisconsin Women in Government (WWIG), a statewide, bipartisan, non-profit organization of professional women in government service, is co-hosting a brownbag lunch panel with the Wisconsin Women’s Network (WWN), a coalition that promotes the advancement of women and girls in Wisconsin through communication, education, advocacy, and connections. The brownbag lunch panel, to be held on February 29th at the DreamBank, will explore why more women do not run for elected office, what it is like to run for office, and various training and development opportunities that are available. Researchers from the UW-Extension Local Government Center will share their new findings about why more women are not running for elected office. Erin Forrest, Executive Director of Emerge Wisconsin and Michelle Litjens of LTD Fundraising & Campaign Consulting will discuss what it is like to run for office and the training opportunities for women seeking elected office on both sides of the aisle. MADISON – Wisconsin Women in Government (WWIG), a statewide, bipartisan, non-profit organization, will host an upcoming women’s leadership panel. The event, to be held to be held at the Pyle Center on Tuesday, February 9th, will provide an opportunity for participants to learn from a panel of experts who will share their experiences and advice. These leaders blend a layered and nuanced approach to navigating a rapidly changing workplace and marketplace in very visible organizations. Participants are encouraged to bring questions to facilitate a lively discussion. “We are pleased to be hosting this exciting event,” said Megan Purtell, WWIG President. “This is a great opportunity to learn from women who are leaders in their fields.” The panel of experts includes:
· Moderator: Susan Yackee, Director, La Follette School of Public Affairs, Professor of Public Affairs and Political Science The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30pm. A reception with appetizers and a cash bar begins at 5:30pm, and the panel will run from 6:00 to 7:00pm with additional time for networking to follow. A suggested donation for this event is $20. Advanced registration is encouraged.
